In astrology it is associated with first impressions, your approach to life and the starting point of the houses in a birth chart. It can change about every two hours, so the correct time, place and UTC offset matter.
The calculation combines Greenwich apparent sidereal time, location and Earth’s true obliquity. Exact times are checked across ±2 minutes and approximate times across ±15 minutes; no single result is shown if the rising sign changes. A reliable rising sign cannot be calculated without a birth time.
Enter the date as recorded in the local calendar at your birthplace. If the tool asks for a time and city, select where you were born rather than where you live now. Where time-confidence options are offered, mark an approximate or unknown time honestly. Do not invent a time if the Sun tool requests it on a boundary day. A random time does not make the answer more reliable.
Leo rising means the eastern horizon at the birthplace intersected the Leo segment of the zodiac. This is a different calculation from the Sun being in Leo. Use the first-impression theme to compare your behavior in different settings; it is not a complete personality description or a guarantee of how other people see you.
The Ascendant depends strongly on time and coordinates; a fixed 'changes every two hours' schedule is not reliable for everyone. A wrong city, today's UTC offset applied to a past date, or an approximate time treated as exact can change the result. An unknown birth time cannot produce one reliable Ascendant. Even a recorded time may be approximate; preserve the displayed uncertainty near a sign boundary.
